It’s Complicated

Years ago I was mountain biking just north of Vail Colorado.  Something was different that day.  It was at the height of the pine beetle rampage and so many of our pine trees were now dead.  They stood as stately as they could. Instead of providing shade, they provided eerie shadows and unnatural rays of sunshine into the forest.  I remember mixed emotions. Grateful for the warm sun.  But sad for the dead trees.  It’s complicated.
